Measures download speed via test file transfer. Results may vary by server & location.

What is a good internet speed?

For general web browsing: 5-25 Mbps is sufficient. For HD streaming: 25 Mbps. For 4K streaming: 50-100 Mbps. For gaming: 25+ Mbps with low latency. For video calls: 10-25 Mbps upload and download.

Fiber connections typically offer 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps. Cable offers 25-500 Mbps. DSL ranges from 1-100 Mbps. Mobile 5G can reach 100-1000 Mbps.

What affects your speed test result?

Distance to test servers, Wi-Fi interference, network congestion during peak hours (7-11pm), and background downloads all affect results. For the most accurate reading, test via Ethernet cable and close other tabs. Run multiple tests at different times for a reliable average.

Understanding your results

Download speed (Mbps) affects streaming, browsing, and file downloads. Ping (ms) affects gaming and video calls. Under 20ms is excellent, over 100ms causes noticeable lag. Jitter measures latency consistency; high jitter causes choppy video calls even with fast speeds.

What is a good download speed? +
25 Mbps handles one 4K stream. 100+ Mbps suits a family with multiple simultaneous streams. For gaming, low ping under 20ms matters more than raw speed.
Why is my test slower than my plan? +
Wi-Fi, peak congestion, server distance, and VPN usage all reduce measured speeds. Test via Ethernet cable for the most accurate result.
What is ping? +
Round-trip time in milliseconds to a server and back. Under 20ms is excellent. 20-80ms is good. Over 150ms causes noticeable lag in real-time applications.
How often should I test? +
Test at different times since congestion peaks in evenings. If consistently below your plan speed, document results to share with your ISP.
